Complete Asbestos Surveys were instructed to carry out an asbestos management survey at Ferno UK's manufacturing and office facility in Cleckheaton following a health and safety audit. During the audit, it was identified that there was no asbestos survey in place for the premises, creating a compliance gap that needed to be addressed. As a busy operational site incorporating manufacturing, warehousing, offices and sales functions, the survey needed to be completed with minimal disruption while providing the client with a clear understanding of any potential asbestos risks within the building.

The Client's Challenge
Following a routine health and safety audit, Ferno UK of Cleckheaton identified that an asbestos management survey had never been completed for the property. As a commercial building constructed during a period when asbestos-containing materials were commonly used, the company required a survey to ensure compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and fulfil their legal duty to manage asbestos.
The challenge was completing the survey while the facility remained fully operational. Manufacturing activities, warehouse operations, office staff and sales teams all continued working throughout the inspection, meaning the survey had to be carefully planned around normal business activities.
Our Approach
We carried out a comprehensive asbestos management survey across approximately 5,500m² of manufacturing, warehouse, office and production. The inspection covered all accessible internal and external areas while ensuring disruption to day-to-day operations was kept to an absolute minimum.
Working alongside site personnel, we inspected production areas, storage facilities, office accommodation and ancillary spaces to assess the presence of any suspect asbestos-containing materials.
Throughout the survey, no suspect asbestos-containing materials were identified within the accessible areas of the building. As a result, no sampling was required. A detailed asbestos management survey report was subsequently prepared, documenting the inspection findings and confirming the absence of any identified asbestos risks within the surveyed areas.

Positive Outcome
The survey confirmed that no suspect asbestos-containing materials were present within the accessible areas of the facility, providing reassurance to Ferno UK and supporting their ongoing health and safety management procedures.
With a compliant asbestos management survey now in place, the company was able to address the findings raised during the health and safety audit and demonstrate proactive management of asbestos risks within the workplace. The completed report provided the documentation required for audit purposes whilst giving management confidence that staff, contractors and visitors could continue using the premises safely.
