The Client's Challenge
The client was undertaking refurbishment works at a Victorian terraced property in Leeds, including the installation of a new boiler system. Before the new flue could be fitted, an existing asbestos cement flue pipe needed to be removed from the property.
The challenge was to safely remove the flue pipe without damaging the asbestos cement material while allowing the refurbishment programme to remain on schedule. As builders were already working on site, the removal also needed to be completed quickly and efficiently to avoid unnecessary delays.
Our Approach
Following an initial assessment, we developed a safe removal plan for the asbestos cement flue pipe. The pipe measured approximately five linear metres in length and extended from the basement boiler room up the rear external elevation of the property.
Using controlled ladder access, the flue pipe was carefully dismantled section by section. Because asbestos cement flue pipes are manufactured in interlocking sections, each piece could be safely removed without cutting or breaking the material. This minimised the potential for fibre release and ensured the works remained fully compliant with current asbestos regulations.
Once removed, all asbestos waste was securely wrapped, transported and disposed of as hazardous asbestos waste at a licensed disposal facility. Completion documentation was provided to the client confirming the lawful disposal of all asbestos materials.
