Complete Asbestos Surveys were instructed to carry out an asbestos management survey at Trenchless Group's Barnsley facility after a health and safety audit identified that no asbestos survey was in place. As a specialist provider of trenchless technology solutions, the site included offices, workshops, fabrication areas, warehouses, stores, welfare facilities and external yard areas. The survey was required to ensure compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and provide management with confidence that staff, contractors and visitors could continue using the premises safely.

The Client's Challenge

Following a health and safety inspection, it was identified that Trenchless Group in Barnsley did not have a current asbestos management survey in place. As a company operating from a large industrial facility with office accommodation, workshops, warehousing and external storage areas, the directors wanted to ensure they were meeting their legal obligations as duty holders.

The survey needed to be completed while normal operations continued across the site, including office functions, fabrication work, warehousing activities and vehicle movements throughout the yard.

Our Approach

We carried out a comprehensive asbestos management survey across approximately 705m² of accommodation, covering offices, meeting rooms, kitchen facilities, workshops, fabrication areas, warehouse space, stores, welfare facilities and external yard buildings. The survey included all accessible areas of the premises and was undertaken in accordance with HSG264 guidance.

To minimise disruption, the inspection was scheduled during a quieter operational period. Whilst there were no significant access challenges, care was taken when surveying the yard and workshop areas, where forklift truck movements remained active. A banksman was utilised where necessary to ensure safe working practices throughout the inspection.

No suspect asbestos-containing materials were identified during the survey. As a result, no samples were required and no asbestos register entries were generated. The completed report confirmed that there were no identified asbestos risks within the accessible surveyed areas.

The report provides an important record for future maintenance, inspections and contractor management activities, ensuring the business remains compliant with HSE expectations.
