- Pumps and valve connections
- Industrial machinery and equipment
- Old HVAC systems and ducting joints
They are often hidden within equipment, meaning they are not always visible unless dismantled or disturbed.
What Do Asbestos Gaskets Look Like?
Asbestos gaskets can vary depending on their application, but they are typically:
- Flat or ring-shaped sealing components
- Grey, off-white, or sometimes black in colour
- Dense but slightly fibrous on edges when damaged
- Found sandwiched between metal components (e.g. pipe flanges)
- Sometimes appear as paper-like or compressed board materials
Because asbestos fibres are bound into the gasket, they are not always obvious without testing.
